NAPW Washington DC Local Chapter Conducts Wealth-Building Seminar and Networking Event in July

On Tuesday, July 17, 2012, the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) Washington, DC Chapter, in conjunction with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce conducted a wealth-building seminar, 'Biz Killer: Avoiding Mistakes That Can Destroy You Business'.

The networking event and seminar was held at the headquarters of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce located on 1495 F Street, NW Washington, DC in the Nation's Capital. The seminar was held from 5:30PM - 7:30PM. The event was a smashing success and hopefully it was the first of many, successful collaborations between the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter and the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

'Biz Killer', was a seminar designed to help each person in attendance improve all aspects of their business and financial lives.

"Everyone in attendance was fortunate enough to hear from a panel of financial experts, who have worked with many of the powerful brokers in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area and throughout the United States," said Gerly Sapphire Harris, NAPW Washington DC Chapter President.

These well-educated financial experts covered a wide range of topics including wealth building strategies, business building strategies, as well as strategies to help mitigate tax liabilities, and estate planning. The lively discussion was interactive, which fostered an environment of learning. Each attendee had the opportunity to glean knowledge, information, and advice from a panel of experts that, if implemented, could have positive ramifications for years to come. At a time when a number of me fashion jackets dia outlets, and certain segments of the population are constantly focusing on the challenges in the economy (and there are many), it was refreshing to hear from a group of individuals focused on maximizing resources and an improving financial situation.

One of the key points of the seminar was the value of knowledge. Individuals armed with a good education and access to the most current information will be in a better position to take advantage of emerging market opportunities. Education and knowledge will also help combat one of the impediments to financial success and that is fear. Education and a powerful team could help a business owner prosper even in economically challenging times. The opportunity to speak with this group of financial experts was truly a blessing for everyone in attendance. The experts not only provided a wealth of knowledge, they also answered every question posed by the audience.

After the financial seminar, the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter President Ms. Gerly Sapphire Harris thanked each of the Committee Board members and their teams for their hard work, dedication, and willingness to share their personal genius. Each member positively influenced the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. The Committee Board is as follow: Vice President, Karen Atkins Purifoy; Special Advisor to the Committee Board, Kathleen Callaghy; Treasurer, Janiece Norfleet; Director of Communication, Vanessa G. Huguley; Director of Programs, Sonia Montes De Oca; and Director of Membership, May Khoury. Ms. Gerly Sapphire Harris, also acknowledge each of the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter members as well. A few moments of appreciation was said to each Chapter members for the contributions that each of them have made for the advancement of the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter. The accomplishments made by the 'End of the Second Quarter and Up-Date', based on the email that was sent out on Saturday, June 30, 2012 was shared.

Ms. Gerly Sapphire Harris shared, "As we approach the end of the second quarter of 2012 and begin to reflect upon the first half of the year, the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter has a lot to be proud of."

"The lives that we have touched and the positive impact that has been made by the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter has been unprecedented," Gerly said. "As the President of the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter, I must say that I am extremely proud of each Committee Board members and their team. I am also extremely grateful to be associated with such a positive and dynamic group of women. Any and all of the accomplishments of the NAPW Washington, DC Chapter is the result of the personal gifts, talents, and/or monetary donations personal that each of you brought to our 'community table'. Again I say, Thank You. The first half of 2012 has been a smashing success, but there is still a lot of work to do."

Gerly encouraged each member to continue their efforts on behalf of the community. The NAPW Washington, DC Chapter is dedicated to Service and our February (Women's Shelter Outreach), and May (College for Kids program) outreach efforts was a huge success. In fact, the Chapter's efforts have been featured on WOL, which is a Radio One station. The group received several 'Thank You' letters from families who received clothing that was donated by our members. They also received commendation from the City Gate organization for our contributions to the young children within the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.

In addition to outreach efforts, the Chapter's Meet & Greet event hosted by Mrs. Sonia Montes De Oca, the Director of Programs, was very successful as well. The NAPW Washington, DC Chapter Committee Board is such a great team that is has been dubbed the 'Dream Team'. Gerly gave the Committee Board this name because they make it happen and get the job done in excellence.

Ms. Gerly Sapphire Harris thanked everyone in attendance for their participation in the meeting, and welcomed the new members. Sapphire reminded the group that their August Outreach will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at China Town 777 Seventh Street, NW Washington, DC 20001, 3rd Floor Community Room.

Types Of Dogs That Are Popular

Dogs are generally split into seven major categories, sometimes eight if you count the miscellaneous category. The different types of dog groupings help to categorize dogs based upon there features. A few types of dog groups include Terriers, Toy Dogs, and Non-Sporting Dogs.

Terrier Dogs

Terrier dogs were originally bred to hunt and control vermin and other predators such as rats, mice, foxes and ferrets. This selective breeding for specific characteristic and traits gave rise to small, energetic breeds with very determined temperaments.

Terriers were bred for their ability to dig tenaciously in search of their quarry as well as the tendency to bark persistently in order to frighten their prey out of hiding.

Terrier dogs tend to be small or medium in size and are usually described as feisty, willing to take on even the biggest of opponents with no regard for size. This is an excellent trait for hunting rats, but not always a nice attitude with other pets or young children.

The very traits that make them successful hunters can also make them a little difficult to trai women's coats n effectively as their determined nature may seem to some as being stubborn.

Toy Dogs

Dogs belonging to the toy dog group were originally bred and developed to provide pleasure and companionship to wealthier people. Where other dog breeds were allocated specific roles in hunting or working, toy dogs had no specific working function and became somewhat of a status symbol.

Before the advent of breeding for appearance, toy dog breeds were often employed as lap warmers or bed warmers, spawning the name lap dog and could often be seen seated on the laps of nobles and royalty in both Oriental and European palaces and castles.

Toy dogs generally make very easy care domestic pets, although without adequate socialization when they are pups, toy breeds may tend to become very protective of their owners and their property. This trait can develop a persistent barking habit, or yapping, in these very small dogs as they seek to ward off others from what they perceive as their property.

Some more common types of toy dogs include the Chihuahua, Maltese terrier, Pomeranian, Shih Tzu, and Poodles among other types of dogs.

Non-Sporting Dogs

There are so many different types of dogs encompassed in the non-sporting dogs group that it is difficult to give one specific classification or general trait among them.

Non-sporting dog varieties are available in different sizes, coats, appearances, traits and temperaments. This classification is then more specific to all types of dogs whose primary breeding purpose is no longer utilized.

Many of the breeds found in the non-sporting dogs group were once bred for tasks that have altered over time so that these tasks are no longer as commonly required. Such tasks as hunting small game, bull baiting, circus performing dogs and even coach dogs like the Dalmatian are included in these types of dogs.

Examples of the types of dog breeds included in the non-sporting dogs classification include the Dalmation, the Lhasa Apso, Poodle, Chow Chow, Bichon Frise, and the Chinese Shar-pei.

Herding Dogs

Herding dogs were originally developed to utilize their huge levels of stamina and agility. Many types of dogs in the herding dog group are able to herd animals that may be many times their size and this can seem as though they are able to control the movements and direction of other animals. They are also able to control the movements of large herds of sheep, deer, or cattle that number in the hundreds with relative ease.

Most types of herding dogs have been bred over generations to sport a weatherproof double-coat that not only protects them from the cold, but can also insulate them against the heat.

Herding dogs are very intelligent and have enormous amounts of energy. The combination of these two traits can mean herding dogs often become destructive if not given sufficient exercise or mental stimulation to stop them becoming bored.

The instinctive nature of herding dogs is very strong and they will attempt to round up members of the family, including other pets, in order to direct them back to areas or activities the dog would prefer to be enjoying.

Herding dogs respond very well to firm training and actually enjoy being challenged with tasks that make them hunt, seek, track, or find object. They will perform best when given specific tasks to complete prior to receiving a positive reward or reinforcement.

Border collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, German Shepherd Dogs, and Shetland Sheepdogs are among the various types of herding dogs.

In more recent times, the intelligence and natural determination of these types of dogs has led them to be utilized in alternative roles away from their traditional herding roles.

It is becoming more common to see many different types of herding dogs actively used in working dog roles, such as police work, tracking work, and even rescue work.

Miscellaneous Dog Breeds

There are some dog breeds that are classified as miscellaneous simply due to not being recognized by the American Kennel Club at the time of this writing, although they are being considered for inclusion into the recognized dog breeds list.

One miscellaneous dog breed includes the Neapolitan Mastiff, which was originally bred in Italy as a war breed to be used in dog fighting and bear baiting. They were also often used by the Romans in the arena, but these enormous fierce dogs are also very effective as guard dogs.

The Black Russian terrier is also quite an old Russian breed, dating back to the 1800s. Originally bred for military use, these large dogs were also used in the bull-fighting ring.

Another miscellaneous dog breed is the Glen of Imaal Terrier, originally from Ireland and bred to hunt small game. The terrier is also known as a Miniature Irish Wolfhound.

Flea treatment for your pets

Having a dog also means that you need to deal with pesky fleas. Aside from catching diseases, your dog can also suffer from anemia due to losing too much blood from blood sucking fleas. If your dog is sensitive to flea bites, it may end up having a mild skin problem or in severe cases it may develop a severe allergic reaction resulting in baldness, intense itch and inflammation throughout its body. Many dog owners tend to get confused to the many flea treatment products in the market today. Flea treatment products ranges from flea comb, flea sprays, natural products, topical spot-on solutions, oral growth regulator or "birth control" pills for the fleas and more.

Your pet can catch fleas everywhere especially when they are outside your house. Even if you don?€?t want it, your pets will be more than likely going to play host to fleas at some point in their lives. You can?€?t guarantee that your dogs will not catch any fleas. There is very little you can do to prevent this from happening because fleas can be found lurking anywhere just waiting for a host to pass by but there are some things you can still do to prevent fleas from breeding in your house.

You can use a special type of comb called flea comb to help you remove any fleas and eggs from your dog?€?s coat. Adding a little bit of oil onto the comb spines is very effective in catching those pesky fleas because they get caught or trapped to the comb. Do not forget to have a bowl of hot water close by when you do this easy trick so that you can instantly place any fleas directly into the water whenever you catch one. You should always remember to pay attention to some hot spot areas on your pet?€?s body like behind their ears, spots in between their toes, the fur in their armpits, and the spots under their neck. Placing a white cloth under your dog during combing can help you to easily notice fleas. Fleas are notoriously hard to catch so don't expect to eradicate all your pet?€?s fleas in one combing.

You can also use alcohol to stun fleas while brushing and effortlessly dump them into a cup of water to die. Empty the mug down the toilet to make sure that any fleas do not make it out. Regularly giving baths to our dog can also minimize your dog?€?s flea problems but not when you are dealing with a major flea?€?s infestation. With major flea problem you can use special shampoos that are made to kill fleas. Alternative products available commercially are rosewood, cedar, or eucalyptus is better choice than relying on other commercial products to take care of minor flea problems. Another alternative in dealing with minor flea problem is cutting up lemons and squeezing the juice into a quart of water is, after it settles in a few hours you can put it into a clean spray bottle. A little spray across the body is usually enough to solve minor flea problem of your dog, just remember to avoid getting any spray into the eyes of your dog.

Bring your dog to a veterinarian when your dog?€?s flea problem has reached to flea infestation level. Veterinarian can analyze your pet?€?s condition and prescribe the best medication for the flea infestation. There are also many products available in the market that is safe to use in your home and also safe for your pets like a diatomaceous earth. This is one of the cheapest ways to handle flea problems in your home. Advantage and Frontline can wipe out adult fleas and prevents outbreak for up to 3 months. You just need a few drops onto your pet's shoulder and the special chemical will spread and cure on its own. Advantage and Frontline has little toxicity which makes it safe for your pet. These products are both harsh to pest but gentle to your pet?€?s sensitive sk women's jackets in. Whether Advantage or Frontline, you can be confident that your purchased item will completely eliminate the bugs on your pet?€?s skin. Be alert in handling such substances because these chemicals can injure you or your pet if used improperly. Ask your vet if you don?€?t understand anything about the product. Every flea control products on the market are not the same so select one that best suitable for your pet?€?s condition. Each has their own levels of success and kill different flea stages i.e. the eggs, larvae, and adults. One product or system may be effective against the adult fleas but is simply harmless to the eggs or larvae.

If your pet has a bad flea infestation then you have to use a combination of these products to effectively remove the fleas. Try to research on other alternative products or methods in controlling and reducing fleas. There are many flea control methods you might not have been aware of before so research! Your selection of a flea treatment medicine or system for your dog is very essential because it determines the success or failure in your fight against these pesky fleas.

Tips on Painting Rugs and Hooked Rugs

There are times that we feel that the color of the rugs has become faded. We can make them up by painting the surface of the rugs. Here are some ideas paint the rugs. It is difficult decision to buy fur rugs, as we are worry on how to clean them or will it damaging the fur while cleaning them. Well, you can start thinking on buying one now, as you will find the solution in this article.

PAINTING FIBER RUGS with worn or faded patterns can make them look almost new. Use awning, or canvas dye, paint; this is a hardwearing waterproof paint that penetrates the fibers and dries to a flat finish. Also available is a special paint made for such rugs. Put plenty of newspapers under the rug so that you will not stain the floor underneath and apply the paint with a stiff brush. Cover a small area at a time, being careful to get the paint into all the crevices. Paint both sides if you wish, but be sure the first coat is thoroughly dry before you turn the rug over.

MATTING can be swept with a soft brush or cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. It is important to roll it up for a weekly cleaning of the floor underneath because dirt goes through it with the greatest of ease. Wipe it occasionally with a cloth dampened with plain water or water containing a couple of teaspoons of ammonia. But don't get it too wet or it will develop odors.

HOOKED RUGS AND NUMDAH RUGS can be cleaned with a carpet sweeper. We have already warned against the damage that can be done to a small rug by shaking it vigorously outdoors to rid it of dust. Such techniques are especially damaging to hooked rugs and Numdah rugs from India. The burlap backing of hooked rugs is easily broken. You can snip the sprouting ends of closely hooked rugs with scissors, but never pull on them or you'll be sorry. Numdah rags are made of matted goat's hair and come apart under rough treatment. They cannot be washed; have them dry cleaned.

FUR RUGS are also in a special category, and the method used to clean them depends upon the backing. If the backing is wool, they can be cleaned with cornmeal that acts as an absorbent. Sprinkle the cornmeal generously into the fur, then brush it out. Several applications of fresh meal, followed by careful brushing, may be necessary to get the rug really clean. For rugs that are mounted in any other way, or unmounted, wipe the fur with a cloth wrung out of suds made with pure white soap flakes or a mild detergent, being careful not to get the backing, or pelt, wet. Rinse several times with a cloth wrung out of clear lukewarm water. Add a little bluing to the last water if the fur is white.

PILE RUGS made of rayon, nylon, and other synthetic fibers, either alone or mixed with wool, are cared for by the methods given for wool pile rugs.

PADS UNDERNEATH RUGS make them pleasantly springy and prolong their life. They are usually made of fibers such as jute and do not have to be mothproofed in this case. Rubber sheeting underlays, used as an accident precaution under small scatter rugs, lose some of their ability to hug the floor through picking up wax and soil. They need to be washed now and then to restore them. Use warm water and mild soap flakes or detergents; rinse and dry.

UNDERLAYS OF PRESSED FIBERS require gentle handling but they are so open and porous that the dirt sifts through them to the floor. So roll the pad up now and then and clean underneath it. If you feel that you must do more than that, run your vacuum cleaner over it, using the floor brush attachment, not the rug cleaner. Manipulate it with long slow strokes, avoiding undue pressure.

LATEX RUBBER BACKED PADS can be wiped with damp clothes but be sure the pad is perfectly dry before replacing it.

From this article we learned that we can use hardwearing waterproof paint to paint t women's coats online he rugs and use the stiff brush for applying. Matting can be clean with soft brush of vacuum cleaner while Hooked rugs or numdah rugs can easily be cleaned using carpet weeper. Clean the fur rugs by sprinkle the cornmeal into the fur, then brush it out. Use warm water and mild soaps or detergents to clean the pads underneath rugs.

Girls, Tips On What To Wear On Your First Date

First dates are so much fun. Kudos on basically landing your guy. Okay, so these two possible dates couldn't possibly be more opposite fashion-wise! I'm hoping you'll know in advance what you'll be doing.

I'll give you a few different ideas. For a dressy play and dinner, I personally would go with a simple black pencil skirt. It is perfect for basically every occasion and you won't look overdone, or too casual. Some black peep-toe heels would look great with this, or even a strappy shoe.

Shirt-wise, there are so many options. Call me crazy, but I'm such a huge fan of the whole belted shirt. However, I'd go with a brighter shirt since the skirt and shoes would be black. A nice plum color would be great and it's really big right now. A nice voluminous shirt would look cute too. A fuller skirt would work with all of these as well.

For the more casual date, I don't think there is anything wrong with a nice pair of dark-wash jeans with heels. A nice pair of ballet flats would work too. I love a nice bold sweater. You could add some nice bold silver jewelry to pull it all together. If a sweater seems too hot, go for a fitted 3/4 length top instead.

I am a huge fan of your idea of dark wash jeans and the sweater--personally I'd go with red or another bright color. The ankle boots sound cute. It's probably getting a little chilly for open-toed shoes anyway (I just live on the dangerous side). Any type of heels and jeans just looks so classy in my opinion. The cropped jacket sounds cute, as does the velvet peacoat. The jacket says "I'm such a fun gal!" and the peacoat says "I'm fun but mucho classy!" so it is up to you. Both choices sound great.

This guy sounds great--I'm so excited for you! I love random meeting. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

You asked about where I get my fashion knowledge from and I guess it's a few different things. I have always been a huge fan of "What not to Wear" and other makeover stuff, but recently I've been working at a TV station in Boston helping out the style producer for their fashion segment.

Their's a big difference between a basketball game and the theater, but I'll give it my best shot! You need to wear something classic and versatile so I'm leaning toward nice black pants and a dressiest black sweater...maybe something with a low scoop neck that's fitted with long or 3/4 length sleeves or a black sweater with a v-neck/wrap front. Just not something boxy! You can wear a white or yellow gold necklace...whichever matches your watch and bracelet. Pair the outfit with high heeled black boots and you'll be all set. That's what I would do if I were faced with two such different possibilities!

New Spring Clothes: 3 Uniquely Fresh Looks For Spring

Are you looking for something fresh to wear this spring?

While there's an array of new spring looks, there's also a sense of the ordinary in many department store spring collections that just doesn't appeal to everybody.

Maybe your closet is filled already with flower print dresses, khaki pants and tank tops in every color. What you need is a breath of fresh air. Here's three totally updated looks for you to try out.

1) 80s Wrinkled Cool

1980s fashion style is back in a big way. Not everything 80s is punk or zippered to the hilt. You can have a totally laid back look by finding relaxed wrinkled pieces that are easy to care for, as well as, easy going.

The Cotton Wrinkled Blouse – traditional cotton blouses aren't supposed to be wrinkled, but this look allows you to wear a comfortable blouse with built-in wrinkles. Just throw it on and go.

The Relaxed Wrinkled Skirt – you can go with the long bohemian skirt here, but there are also short skirt styles with more of a tailored look that will work great.

The Relaxed 80s Motorcycle Style Jacket – look for a jacket with an elastic or cinched waist and multiple zippers on the front. Material will be light cotton or polyester blend. Comes in vibrant colors.

Wrinkled Trench Coat – the same classic style in a very relaxed cotton or twill fabric. You'll look great while remaining casually comfortable.

Two Toned Silk Wrinkled Scarf – wrap this breezy accent scarf around your neck or waist and add a little pizzazz to your casual chic outfit. Two colors are better than one.

Chunky Platform Shoes with Ruffles – keep the carefree casual look going from head to toe with the perfect pair of casual chic shoes. Look for wooden platform shoes topped by ruffled canvas or leather uppers.

Slouchy Handbag – finish this look off with a big old slouchy leather or canvas bag.

2) 20s Jazz Age Casual

Recreate the clean, crisp look of the 1920s country club set.

Sleeveless Pintuck Pleated Dress – this is a nice basic that you can wear to the office or a casual get together. If you can't find a pintuck pleated style, then any comfortable, sleeveless, free flowing style dress, in a solid color, will do the trick. Length should be just below the knee. Colors: white, black, navy or tan.

White Pleated Skirt – kind of old, yet so fresh and modern too. This skirt should drape below the knee.

Beaded Sleeveless Top – Beaded ornamentation on women's clothing was all the rage in the 1920s so this will look gre women's jackets at with a pleated skirt.

White Cable Knit Belted Cardigan – this cardigan style is the perfect piece to top off your 20s look. Great looking in solid white or with a dark colored trim.

High Heel Oxford Pump – the oxford never goes out of style. A higher heel adds modern flair to an old favorite.

Marcasite Jewelry – Look for marcasite jewelry pieces to accent this great 1920s look.

3) New Color Combination: Pale Yellow and Gray

Fresh and unexpected color combinations can brighten up old neutral pieces – in this case the neutral is gray.

Look for the pale yellow and gray combination in: dresses, tops, shoes and purses. Buy some yellow pieces and do your own experimenting – it's fun.

But don't panic because this is an easy one!!! Wear high heeled women's jackets online brown pumps and a matching brown handbag. The shade of brown is up to you...can be dark or milk chocolate, espresso, a reddish brown, etc. It will all work, but make sure your handbag matches the shoes.

You can wear a great necklace since the neckline is square. Wear yellow gold or natural toned beads, but have the necklace be short so it lays on your chest above the neckline of the dress. You can also wear a gold bracelet and watch. Don't go overboard because the dress sounds classic and your accessories should be as well!

Homey Homemade Gifts

Homemade gifts are always great for family and friends because they're thoughtful. So on a cold winter day before Christmas, rally the kids and get them to create an Indian notepad, cookie tray or colorful shelf trimming paper.

Indian Note Pad

An Indian makes an interesting drawing, and a note pad makes a useful item, so they ought to make a very good project together.

Trace an Indian with a pencil on a piece of stiff cardboard. Make it from six to eight inches tall. Be sure to include feathers, and other things common to an Indian of early days. He might even be holding a bow and arrow. Color the picture with crayons or water colors. Now cut the Indian out.

For a pad, you can either make your own from blank slips of paper, or buy one at the store. Be sure the pad is shorter and narrower than the India women's jackets n. Poke two holes into the top of the pad. Attach the pad to the center of the Indian on the colored or painted side, by running string through the pad holes and through two holes in the center of the Indian. Tie it in back. Your Indian note pad is ready to serve you.

Hang it on the wall in the kitchen, above the telephone, or in your room.

Cookie Tray

What is more pleasant to look at than a tray full of homemade cookies? But of course the tray must first be made. Here is how you can make a tray that will serve cookies, cold drinks, or anything else that you wish to serve.

Cut out a piece of flat wood, nine by 12 inches in size. Plywood is excellent, though you may use any kind of wood you have about. Sandpaper it until smooth. For a border, nail pieces of rope all around the tray, about 1/2 inch in from the edges. Make two smooth blocks of wood, about one inch square and two inches long. Nail them at each end to serve as handles.

You may decorate your tray with pictures, or paint a design on it. A coat of varnish will give your finished tray an attractive appearance as well as protect it from wear

A homemade tray makes a good gift.

Shelf Trimming Paper

Here is home handcraft at its best. Every home has shelves. Here is an opportunity to add a touch of prettiness to them. You can decorate the shelves in your room or in the kitchen or anywhere else where it is needed.

If the shelves already have shelf paper on them, you can make your own designs on the overhanging borders. If there is no paper at all on them, you can make the entire shelf paper. To do this, simply measure the length and width of your shelf and cut your paper accordingly, allowing enough paper in the width for an overhanging border of a reasonable length, according to the height of the shelf. Usually, two or three inches is good.

You have your choice of several methods of adding decorations to the overhanging borders. A simple method would be to cut out colored pictures or designs from old magazines and paste them on. In this case, gather pictures that form a similar theme. For example, for a sea scene, you could clip pictures of boats, fishermen, fish and the seashore. For a forest scene, you could use trees, lakes and animals.

A good final touch would be to cut a wavy edge on the bottom of the border piece.

Paint Dates Back To Around 40 000 Years

You may not know about this such a very interesting fact that paint dates back to around 40 000 years. So what is paint? Paint is any liquid or mastic composition which after applying to a surface or substrate will be converted to an opaque solid film. We will now take a look at the history of paint which dates back as far as forty thousand years ago. There are many cave paintings that have been found which were drawn with red and yellow ochre, hematite as well as manganese oxide and charcoal.

If we take look at the many ancient walls that were painted in Egypt which has survived the harsh open air climate and has still retained the perfect brilliance of colour after two thousand years. They used a technique whereby they mixed their colours with a gum type substance it was noted that they only worked with six colours such as black, white, red, blue, yellow and green. They first painted the area white and then traced a design onto the surface using black and then filled the design in using the remaining colours.

The ingredients used to make paint as the yolk of eggs as these hardened readily and would stick to any surface easily. Colour pigments were obtained from many different sources such as plant materials as well as sands and the red pigment was made from the blood of animals.

Then during the Renaissance period oil paints came into being whereby linseed oil was the base which was used for fine art and oil based paints were extensively used through the different periods and are still in existence today.

In modern day time we now find water based paints as well as watercolours and acrylic paints which are very popular. And paints that were manufactured way back like the milk medium paints which are now called casein are still available today.

You will still find a medium of egg yolk mixed with oil which is called egg tempera as well as encaustic wax paints. And there are watercolours which obtained their pigment from ground semiprecious stones and bound with gum Arabic or egg white is still available.

A very popular paint which is used primarily by art students and children is poster paints. In today's time there is a collection of different types of paints to suit all occasions from interior to exterior paints. Nowadays Primers are used before using a coat of paint to ensure better adhesion of paint which also increases paint durability as well as provides protection to the material being painted.

Then you can buy varnishes which are used to protect your paint work as these are clear paints that do not contain pigments. There are also wood stains which enhance the colour of the wood as well as protect it. Other paints which are obta women's jackets inable are enamel, glaze, finger paints and even anti graffiti coatings. The best of all now on the market is anti climb paint when painted onto a surface makes it extremely slippery and should someone try and climb the wall the paint will rub off onto the climber and they will also slip down the surface. This paint was designed to deter burglars and vandals.

Mugger Vacation Spoiled By Fake ID

Jane and Lenny are young parents. They have 2 kids who are 3 and 5 years old. The kids keeps them pretty busy most of the time. They are looking forward to a little vacation without the children soon. They have been saving for a vacation over the past few years. Summer was here, and this year they were finally ready to go.

Lennys mother offered to keep the kids until they returned home. They would be in good hands. It would also give her some quality time with the little ones. Jane and Lenny packed their belongings, and let the trusted neighbors know they were gone. Then they were off to the vacation spot. When they arrived they wasted no time enjoying the area.

They strolled around the many shops and boutiques. After a while, Mother Nature took over and they knew it was time to get some rest. They headed back to their room and fell asleep. It was still sort of early but they were exhausted. They slept for a few hours. When they awaken it was about 11PM, so they decided to take another stroll through the waterfall area.

Its was quiet and the moon was bright. It was a perfect night for romance. They were enjoying the moon light in the secluded area when a man approached them and asked them for the time. Lenny looked at his watch. At that moment, the man pulled out a knife and said give me your wallet.

Jane was so frightened that she was shaking. Lenny reached for his wallet and gave it to the guy. The guy fled in the opposite direction. Jane regained her composure and they went to the hotel desk to report the crime. Local security took the statement and promised they would do all they could to get Lennys wallet back.

They asked him what kind of identification was lost in the wallet. Lenny said none. The police said, you do not carry identification in your wallet? Lenny said yes, but that was not my real wallet. He reached in a pocket inside his coat and said this is my real wallet. I learned a long time ago to keep my real wallet in a place where thieves would not think it would be.

Jane hugged Lenny, because she knew he had saved them the nightmare of worrying who might have their identification. The mugger had made off with a wallet with fake cards and a few dollars. Lenny called it mugger money. He used it as a diversion and it worked like a charm.

Jane and Lenny did not let the incident spoil their vacation. However; they were more careful. Experts recommend that you always keep a few dollars in your wallet, in case you are mugged. Living With Doggy Happily

The answer is right below your nose! A happy owner makes a happy dog! Dogs are sensitive animals and they know when you are happy or sad.

You may say that you are really happy but your pet do not quite share the same sentiment, so what can we do about it.

The next best thing to do is to quickly check if Fido is sick. A sick pet require medical attention immediately. Do basic health checks on their physical body to ensure they are in good health.

Some basic health check list:

1) Gums - should be pink and healthy, if they look dull, there might be a problem with their health.

2) Teeth - One sure sign of ill health is raw infected gums with bad teeth and bad breath. Your pet may be in pain just like us human when we have toothache. Bring Fido to the vet immediately as bad set of dental can cause detrimental health concerns in their internal organs.

3) Tongue - Dogs who are healthy should have pink healthy tongue. If the tongue is unusually purple, bring to the vet immediately. However, if your pets are born with purple tongue, you may not be able to figure out their health immediately.

4) Tear Stain - Dogs who are constantly tearing could be sad, spend some quality time with them even if you are busy. A 5 minutes cuddle a day goes a long way in ensuring yo women's jackets ur pet is still loved no matter how busy you are with your activities. However, some form of tearing can be normal due to genetics make up.

5) Joints - Ensure they are not broken or in pain, observe if they are walking well and eating well. When a dog is sick, she usually do not eat heartily. Bring to the vet for a check up if this goes on for more then 2 days.

6) Ears - Ears should be clean with no foul odor. If there is strong odor, there could be mites or infection that requires attention.

7) Skin - skin problems can be traumatic for your pets. Their constant need to scratch could be a sign of boredom or skin problem.

If your pet is in absolute good health based on your physical checklist above and you feel she is not a happy dog, first thing to do is to bring her to the vet for a thorough check up. Many pets may be suffering from internal pain not manifested in physical way, e.g. cancer of internal organs, etc. It is best to seek advice from professional help to ensure clean bill of health.

After putting aside ill health as a reason for a sad dog, here are some tips to ensuring good bonding and happy relationship with your dog.

1) Daily walk or exercise - even a 5-10mins of exercise/walk a days makes a huge difference to your pet. They love their walks as it is their time and space to be with nature. It is the highlight to their simple life. So, do not deprive her of it. Even in cold winters seasons, you can make the walk a really quick one or at least replace the walk with some form of physical play with her at home e.g. play fetch, catch me if you can, etc.

2) Daily healthy wholesome foods - the pet food recall incident put all of us in frantic to search for the best pet food for our animal friends. My take on this is home cooked food. Take time to prepare homemade meals for Fido and start observing their change in vitality and health.

3) Grooming - a well groomed dog looks gorgeous, well loved and healthy. Comb your pet daily to ensure there is no unsightly hair matt and natural oil production to keep fido coat clean, neat and nice smelling! Even short coat dogs need regular combing, they will feel loved and cared for being handled and touched by you daily.

4) Lots of love - daily cuddles and talking to your pet is necessary. Some owners feel that dogs do not understand and talking to them may be weird or a waste of time. Actually, dogs do understand. I know many of you are with me on this. The next time if you feel an event might affect your pet or if you have a certain challenge with Fido, talk to her about it like you would to a friend or child, she may respond positively. I have experienced it myself many times.

Lastly, Fido may fall into depression in certain situations and we need to be sensitive about it and assist them to overcome the situation. For example, a death of a loved one/dog companion, change to new home or being abandoned. Do be patient and shower your pet with the love they missed from their friend. In due time, with your constant care and love, they will be a happy dog soon. Just give them time to mourn over their loss and bring them to fun places so they enjoy your company once again.

Tips on How to Maintain Rayon Fabrics

In this article you will find on how to maintain your rayon fabrics.

RAYON is the oldest of today's synthetic, or man-made, fibers. There are two kinds, similar in some ways, but made by entirely different processes, the viscose process and the cuprammonium. Viscose rayon, often called "Bemberg" from the company that produces most of it, is the official rayon. Materials made by the cuprammonium process are now labeled acetate. Both are made from cellulose, found in almost all plant life. Mainly the cellulose used comes from wood and cotton linters.

Rayon is woven into sheer and semisheer fabrics for dresses, coat linings, blouses, drapery, upholstery, and suitings. It is the only man-made fiber from which true crepes can be woven. Rayon has a soft feel and is absorbent; it drapes well, and adapts excellently to blends. Cool summer fabrics are made of it, but it can be woven also in heavy warm materials resembling wool. Rayon is usually washable but tends to be weak when wet so that plenty of water should be used and handling should be gentle. With wear, r women's coats ayon tends to wrinkle so it is often given a wrinkle-resistant finish sometimes finishes also for water resistance and shrinkage. Rayon is color-fast to sun, dry cleaning, washing, and perspiration. Napped rayon fabrics are highly flammable unless treated.

ACETATE FIBERS are used both for luxury and volume materials. They are silky, drape well, and often take the place once held by silk in satins, taffetas, jerseys, failles, and ben-galine. Properly dyed acetates offer bright colors, and unusual color effects can be obtained by blending acetate with other fibers. Subject to fume or gas fading in the past color changes due to atmospheric conditions today's acetates are likely to have been processed to overcome this handicap. By adding appropriate dyes before the fiber is spun, the color becomes a part of the fiber itself. These acetates are known as solution-dyed or dope-dyed. Acetates, less absorbent than rayon, dry more quickly. They are more wrinkle resistant but, with wear and washing, some acetate fabrics develop wrinkles that are hard to press out. Neither rayon nor acetate is attacked by moths if stored clean,

CARE OF RAYONS AND ACETATES. They are dry cleaned or washed by hand, depending upon their construction, finish, and the dyes that have been used So a label you most have. If the garment is washable and instructions for washing it have not been given or have been lost, this is the procedure recommended by one of the large producers of these two fibers:

Dissolve heavy duty detergent or soap in warm (not hot) water before dipping the fabric into it. Gently squeeze sudsy water through the fabric. Avoid rough handling and do not soak colored fabrics, which should be washed separately. Rinse thoroughly in clear lukewarm water, but do not wring or twist. Excess water can be removed by rolling the garment in a towel. Most rayon and acetate fabrics are best ironed when they are nearly dry. They should be pressed on the reverse side to avoid shine, with a warm iron (set for rayon).

Rayon is woven into sheer and semi sheer fabrics for dresses, coat linings, blouses, drapery, upholstery, and suiting. Neither rayon nor acetate is attacked by moths if stored clean. Rayon and acetates are dry cleaned or washed by hand, depending upon their construction, finish, and the dyes that have been used.

Whoodle Puppy & Dog Information

The Whoodle is a crossbreed variety of dog. This unique hybrid is the result of crossing a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Standard Poodle, classified as an F1. Whoodles are also referred to as a Swheat-N-Poo. Since the Whoodle is a crossbreed, the appearance can vary, but F1 stage dogs will often resemble a wheat-colored wolfhound.

The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is an extremely sturdy dog. Alert, sociable and playful, the Wheaten makes a great family pet. Wheaten puppies are black at birth with the coat color changing during the first year. The Standard Poodle is very intelligent and loves to be around people. The combination of these two breeds is thought to be a good match, though it is hard to predict which characteristics will dominate.

The appearance and temperament of multiple generation crossbreeds in the F1B, F2 and F3 categories may differ from the F1 cross.

Approximate Adult Size

As with many hybrid breeds, size and weight will vary. The Wheaten and the Standard Poodle have size and common weight generally in common. The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of either the male or female is 17 to 20 inches at the withers. The wither are measured at the highest point of the shoulder. Adult Whoodles could weigh between 30 and 45 pounds.

Special Health Considerations

Most dog breeds have certain health conditions problems associated with that specific breed and the Wheaten and the Poodle are no exception. The Wheaten has relatively few health issues compared to other breeds though they may be prone to kidney and vision problems. Poodles are prone to glaucoma and epilepsy. As with most hybrids and the introduction of multi-generational breeding, a full understanding of potential health issues is difficult.

This disease list is provided only as an informative guideline and your Whoodle may not experience these conditions. Consult a veterinary professional for more comprehensive information.

As with any dog, the puppy stage, 0 to 12 months of age, is the time for shots, boosters and check up. As an adult, the dog should have an annual veterinary checkup including a dental exam. Avoid feeding your dog sweets and certain human foods.

Grooming

The coat of a Whoodle will be generally soft and silky. Regular brushing will help maintain a clean and healthy coat. The process of grooming provides you an opportunity to examine the dog for skin problems and strengthen the emotional bond between you and your dog.

Dental health is important and the teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities and periodontal disease. Poor canine dental hygiene can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious health conditions.

The claws should be trimmed regularly and the paws examined for signs of injury.

Life Span
With proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions, a Whoodle should be able to live a long and healthy life. Given the hybrid nature of these dogs, an accurate prediction of life expectancy is not possible at this t women's jackets ime, but could range between 10 and 15 years.

Shearling Coats -- Comfort & Style to Last a Lifetime

As the snowy season settles in, will you be among the multitudes who grin and bear it in flimsy synthetic winter jackets? Or will you meet the season head-on in the unmatched warmth and style of a shearling coat?

"Absolutely nothing compares to the comfort of shearling," says Lewis Rafel, a New York City-based shearling and outerwear expert. "Shearling is nature's finest material. It's lightweight and breathable, yet powerfully insulating -- which makes it perfect for win women's jackets ter coats."

For those who haven't heard of it, "shearling" is the term used to describe a sheepskin hide that has been shorn for added softness. Shearling has been used to make coats for centuries, and today's shearling coats for men and women are among the most fashionable and functional winter styles available.

Timeless Tradition, Modern Styles

"Today's shearling coats are extremely stylish" says Lewis. "We're not talking about your grandparents' coats. Once upon a time, shearling coats were heavy and bulky. They were probably made from large American sheep. Those skins were well suited to make jackets for the squadrons flying unheated WWII aircraft, but not for the more flowing, fitted styles of today."

Today's fashionable sheepskin coats are made primarily from Spanish Merino and Toscana pelts, which are lighter in weight, but every bit as insulating.

"The absolute best shearlings for fine, lightweight garments originate in Spain, Italy and Portugal," Lewis says. "These regions have a long tradition of producing the finest pelts. For a high-quality shearling coat, look for a Made in the U.S.A. label, with 'Spanish Merino' or 'Toscana' on the garment material tags."

Depending on your preference, you can find sheepskin coats in a wide range of colors, patterns and styles for men and women--from timeless classics like B-3 Bombers to more haute, urban styles trimmed with fur or exotic Tibetan Lamb. No matter which style you choose, the natural luster and beauty of shearling speaks for itself.

Long-lasting Comfort & Function

It's more than just good looks that leaves shearling in its own league. According to Lewis, shearling is simply the best material out there, when it comes to insulation, weather-protection and longevity.

"Advancements in textiles and fabrics haven't come anywhere close to surpassing shearling's natural, lightweight warmth," he says. "Shearling also performs beautifully in winter weather, like snow and light rain. Just come in, shake the snow off, and let the coat air dry."

Cared for properly, a shearling coat will last you for years, if not decades. Shearling also wears beautifully on any occasion. Whereas parkas suit the trails, and furs suit the opera, a shearling coat fits in just about everywhere. Weekend or weekday, you can count on shearling for rugged, reliable warmth and style.

What to Look For in a Shearling Coat

First and foremost, Lewis recommends purchasing shearling coats made in the U.S.A. for optimal quality. Secondly, he advocates asking yourself a few key questions to determine the best coat for you, or a loved one.

"Check in with yourself and ask, 'What is my lifestyle? What are my needs? Will this be my primary winter coat, or one of many?' If you're in and out of the car a lot each day, a shorter style might be the best choice. If you live in the city and walk everywhere, a full-length style might suit you better."

Of course, personal taste plays a key role in style selection as well. Are your clothes more traditional or do you like high fashion? Do you enjoy standing out in a crowd, or do you prefer more laid-back, classic styles?

Whatever your lifestyle and taste in clothing, there's a shearling that's just right for you!
